The grimmer wellbeing

This day this counted tossing in bed of Earth on
neuroleptics watch her twitching nations startled
they shiver on roofs their babble the babble of ghosts

if ghosts were so inclined or able. Stable this day
that was made and passed unmade like the toddling weeks
God spent mumbling fables about folks begot of clay.

Lonely liar him his gist was what feels good is ungood.
Though a hurricane its name real casual reared its
face all the legacy of squalling Polyphemus for show in

this wharf-city where kids growing up they take it easy
and though that comedian his audience all doped on
psalms he told his antic many times before once for

every creature stroked or burnt or staked or sunk he
felt the need to confess his joke whether guffaws or no.
He sought no applause rich liar him he sought no gold.
