The loser

I drank a bottle of gin and played the poor card.
I whipped it out and drank a bottle of gin.
I held my head how I hold my hands with my wrists.
And drank, overtime drinking. The poor card hard
as slobber in the morning ever was for drinkers.
And poor women, given the poor card, who jazzed out
some nameless kid she petted like a long-haired dog
and lost at poker, lost her looks, and walked out to the river.
