From the hearth, iniquity

A theory of iniquity in Saxon,
monosyllables mostly: good boys
gone wrong do their mothers harm
no more than the dust does,
their (every her everywhere) lungs
aghast abused in every labor,
the dust like men ascatter
or heartbroken. Iniquities
there (where the longings were,
sedate at once like cities
at noon when all the villains sleep)
perform their characters in deeds
and soliloquies the mothers teach,
their angers pent, their tatters rent,
to the beardless boys of no account
who kiss in shouts, and murder
in silence hard liquor taught about.
