A defense of aristocracy
A personal voice gets one only so far.
Soul without aesthetics is a medieval humor.
Content and structure are as interdependent
as nerve and bone, or man and Leviathan.
In a democracy, for the Utopias dried up,
the poet is freest of all to write
and least likely to write verse right.
A defense of aristocracy is the function
of its eyes, belabored organs them,
which read and butcher the common sign.
