The ascendant amateur
Or: He crossdresses between man and guise
Amateurs rule their own confessionaries.
The amateur sees, senses completely,
what the learned dote on in hazard.
Orthodoxy tramps the house of the lazar
who peels himself apart, his ears hard,
his hands simian, his brain half-started.
The amateur narrates his own demise.
He crossdresses between man and guise
knowing each in the image of the other.
And the amateur departs, ungoverned,
distanced from the scripted miseries
that bother all children of men and belief.
Amateurs rule their own confessionaries
cramped by theory—yet sovereign and free.
