Inquiring of the armchair

Has an insane man ever walked,
spoke, heaved his head
to our century’s ceiling
(for it is no sky at all)
and in his lonely egotism,
his legs crossed,
his refinement crude,
Pessoa marching in his skull—
asked you, “Has a sane man
ever walked, spoke, sinned?”
For he has never seen him,
nor has a sane man ever been.
