A certain disdain for the intellect
serves you well. Trajectories, histories,
determinations—such is prestidigitation.
Medieval eremites contempt themselves
as much: who can predict, who can elect
a future as awkward as this one is?,

thinks the pale-faced boy who will
in one hundred years cite from the grave
all that a little learning got him—
