An eavesdrop

The neighbor went to a show
and I sat inside and wrote:
Tertullian’s misery is mine
and the neighbor burns alive:

I kid, I kid—a lonely man—
the neighbor is, too, I hear:
he was young but for a span—
now he’s old and time is dear—
