Bear the quilt and buy a noose

A thirty year old darling
addict lives alone
with two filthy dogs
in a filthy apartment
his mother pays for.
An inheritance—
faux-clothes and poetry
class he can’t pass—
they’re only using me
for my alcohol,
he says, they only
like me for my money,
he says. For once
the man is correct:
if he were homeless
he might make something
of himself, if only.
